Describing Holden

The quote describes Holden because its saying its better to have died knowing that you lived the way you wanted and that's how Holden lives, the way he wants to.  I was listing to my music and think of songs that could possibly describe Holden when I cam across some.  The first song is called Have a drink on me by AC/DC I think this song applies to Holden because even though he is under aged he still drinks.  In the book he even says he went to Ernie's and had scotch sodas.  Another song I found was Same Old Song and Dance by Aerosmith.  I thought this song applied to Holden because he doesn't really change out of all the chapters we've read he always acts the same way.  The next song was It's My Life by Bon Jovi.  Holden acts the same way through out what we've read and he acts different from other people he wants to live his own life the way he wants to.  The last song I chose a couple of lines from the song is Turn The Page by Bob Seager Remixed by Metallica.  Well you walk into a restaurant, Strung out from the road. And you feel the eyes upon you As you're shakin' off the cold. You pretend it doesn't bother you, But you just want to explode.  A little bit later in the song it says,  And you always seem outnumbered, You don't dare make a stand.  I thought the first line connected to the chapter where Holden was at Ernie's and the second line fit more with when Holden was hit by Stradlatter, and again in chapter 14 when Maurice and Sunny came to his hotel room.

Chapters 2-4

I like Holden because he seems laid back and doesn't really care, but I don't really like him because he's rebellious.  The way he's care free is kind of in a mean way.  I also don't like that he drinks and smokes.  He does things that I don't really like that make me not like him, but he also has a good side that I like about him.  The way he's like a normal teenager is because he's rebellious.  He doesn't care about anybody, but him self and close friends.  I fell sorry for him because he's been kicked out of so many schools and he says he doesn't care but I think he really does.  He tells us that he doesn't care about certain things, but he probably does.  Like when he left the equipment on the bus he says he thought it was funny, but he probably didn't think it was funny and let the team down.

Holden, good or bad

I think that Holden has both good and bad characteristics.  He is good because he is a very good listener in chapter 8 he listens to what Mrs. Morrow is saying the entire time even though he probably didn't want to listen.  what makes him bad though is he lies a lot and he shoots the crap.  In chapter eight he lies about his name and shoots the crap about Mrs. Morrows son and how cool he is when really he's a jerk to everyone.  overall i like Holden because he has good traits and bad but its hard to know someone that has nothing bad about them.

grief

when I read about Holdens brothers death and the grief he had.  I kind of understood why he reacted the way he did because I have gone though similar experiences.  Two years ago my family got a new kitten for Christmas and we had him for about a year.  One day I came home and he wasn't there and my mom told me he was at the vet. he had surgery and was fine afterwards. he had a foot long piece of string in his stomach.  My cat died that night while recovering.  About 3 days later another cat who my parents have had before I was born got really sick. we took him to the vet and the vet said he was suffering from old age problems so he was euthanized.  I think that Holden still grieves about Allies death because he wrote about Allies glove.  I like Holden because he still feels for his brothers death even though it was a while ago.  He smashed all the windows in the garage because of his brothers death.  He even says that his hand still "hurts" and that he cant make a fist because of how upset he was about allies death.
